My Happy Place
Everyone has one, here’s mine.
When I was a younger man, 30+ years ago, working in a challenging
job, I went up to Schmidt’s Cabin for some R&R with my family. I was the only one on the lake; I was in the
middle of the lake, moving from one fishing spot to another. Suddenly I just
stopped the boat.
The lake was like glass, reflecting the pine trees along the
shoreline. There were no sounds, except the sounds of nature. The sky was a
deep deep blue, with a single fluffy cotton candy cloud floating gently to the
east. I stayed there for an hour or so, burning this experience into my brain …
listening, breathing, visualizing, meditating, praying.
I've gone back to this place hundreds of times over the years in my mind, and I achieve a tremendous relaxation response every time … by breathing, visualizing, meditating, praying. This helps me fall asleep at night, it refreshes me during the day, and even a few minutes breathing, visualizing, meditating, praying puts me into a deep sense of peace and relaxation.
